Welcome to your Park Road Playhouse! Six years ago, we made a promise to build a theater people would be proud to call their own. As our 7th season begins, we proudly
display the earned title of Best Community Theater (for two consecutive years) in The Hartford Advocate and Hartford Magazine’s Readers’ polls. We have expanded our facility to allow more offerings for you, our audience. So sit back, relax, peruse our website, and join us as we celebrate our exciting sixth season.

If you wanted to start a theater, what better place than directly across the street from the Hartford Stage Company. And that’s where we began as the City Repertory Company. We produced four plays in one season and began building a solid reputation. Encouraged to find a home of our own, we searched for an appropriate yet affordable home. One day in the middle of a hectic holiday season, we approached Linda French, executive director of the West Hartford Chamber, with our dilemma. The next day Rob Rowlson, Director of Business Development for West Hartford, called. He took us to what was once an active dairy on Park Road. The A.C. Petersen restaurant was still operating and they were still making ice cream upstairs; but the seven thousand square foot garage that once housed fifty-four milk trucks was vacant. The garage was filthy, filled with junk and rusting equipment, but it was vacant. We didn’t see the mess. We saw a lit stage. We heard laughter, music and applause.

On April 11, 2001 our dream came true. That was opening night and our first production was A.R. Gurney’s Sylvia. Since then we’ve produced dozens of plays and musicals. We’ve been named the Best Community Theater in the readership polls of The Hartford Advocate and Hartford Magazine for 2004, 2005, and 2006. We’ve expanded our facilities; we’ve just completed our first session of KidzPlay and improv classes for adults. Stay tuned for more information about these programs and other exciting happenings. After six seasons of positive growth, we anxiously anticipate the future and what we can bring to our audiences.
